Starting out as a band and live concert photographer in Greensboro, North Carolina, I have known Kasey for years. She is an amazing violist who ran in the same friend circles, so when she had asked me to photograph her wedding, I was stoked! I don’t usually cry at weddings, but I will admit that I boo-hoo’d pretty hard at this one. It was a small, intimate cabin-getaway with the most amazing view of Smith Mountain Lake. This wedding was different in that me and my second shooter, Lindsey, got to exclusively hang out with Kasey and Allyson’s family and friends the night before. We ate a ton of pizza and went night swimming in the clearest of waters surrounded by an amazing mountain backdrop (only it was real)!
The morning was calm. The soft plucking and hummings of Kasey’s bandmates, Molly McGinn and Molly Miller (Amelia’s Mechanics) floated throughout the cabin anticipating the ceremony they were to play later. As I shuffled around getting ready for the day, I couldn’t help but wield a huge cheesy grin– I knew it was going to be a beautiful ceremony. Spoiler alert: It was.
As the sun started to descend, a cookout with an insane amount of fixin’s and beer commenced. Everyone stripped down to their bathing attire and hit the lake. When it was completely night, Kasey joined her bandmates for a bonfire jam session set in the very same place that the ceremony took place. Man, it was an amazing day with some amazing people.
