When I found out that the name of game tournament coordinator, Janessa Smith’s, club was called “Mindgames Fight Club”, I instantly envisioned her wielding a floating controller with her hands. I also knew that I would paint with light.
I had the shutter open for a total of 10 seconds and had four Broncolor heads lighting the scene. One gelled blue (with a 30 degree grid to spot the background), one gelled red (with a 20 degree grid to give her that red edge light and I let it bleed onto the back to compliment the blue spot), one with a square softbox to her right, and with no modifier to give her an edge light to her right at a 45 degree angle to the camera. Once triggered, I scrambled to make the light trail around the controller than I had on a Matthews stand and arm dangling by means of dental floss. It’s a lot harder than it sounds and looks!
I am very pleased with the results. 🙂
